It’s About that Time!
By:Dynasty Custis We all know that eventually it’s going to be your turn to graduate. Seniors from Hampton high School “Class of 2k17.” All seniors who are going to be very excited and happy. Some may be scared, others are going to make it the time of their lives. They’re are seniors who think it’s just a way to finally leave school. Other seniors think that it is a lead way to success. Ways into college, good careers, making a better way in life. Even though a couple seniors question what it would be like after they graduate, they are going to be focused on how much fun they are going to have during that time. I have interviewed a couple seniors to show it’s going to be a great experience. A senior “Jasmine Square” has had a great 4 years at Hampton high School. She has tried to make her best out of them even with the ruff times. As we know graduation time will be here soon. According to Jasmine she is “so ready to graduate.” Jasmine says she is definitely going to college and wants to have a successful career. The best thing to her about graduating is knowing that she made it and knowing that she didn’t give up. Nma Okafor says the best thing to her about graduating is getting ready to leave high school. The best thing in her 4 years were basketball season. On graduation day she says “I am going to turn up and have as much fun as I need to knowing that it is my last year. In the end, the best thing about it to her is getting ready for adulthood. Madeline another senior attending Hampton high, says that the greatest thing about graduating “is walking across that stage knowing that I actually made it.” She really enjoyed the pep rally’s, games, and the fact that she got to make new friends and meet new people. Also she says that she is going to be so nervous when it gets closer to graduation. When it gets closer to graduation, a lot of seniors are going to get even more excited. Especially because it’s almost time to graduate even when it’s a lot to do. They still have to walk across the stage at the end of it all. Hampton High puts a Pep in their Step

Are We Raising A Flag ?
By: Ahtreyonna Holloman The American flag symbolizes freedom, justice, and unity. People fought for this country, for everyone to be free, and have an free education. So, why doesn’t everyone stand up for it? Lately, there have been numerous reports of police brutality against African Americans. Due to these reports, there is now a movement called Black Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter (BLM) is an international activist movement, originating in the African-American community, that campaigns against violence and systemic racism toward African Americans. This movement has changed the way students perceive things about this country and the way they act in school. Everyone doesn’t support this movement and the question is why? Not everyone thinks the movement is bad, some people are all for it, some people support it to an extent, and some are all the way against it. Do you support the Black Lives Matter movement?” is what I asked students, administration, and teachers. Dean Wilson stated “No, because it’s poorly organized and it’s basically saying your life only matters if you’re black ; that’s not true, everyone life matters.” Student Micah Freeman feels differently he supports the movement superlatively. Micah Freeman said “Yes I support the movement because I’m black. My life means something and I’m not trying to die because I’m black.” Mr. Zama supports certain things the BLM Movement stand for. Mr. Zama said “Yes I support to an extent because they fight for equality in the society and everyone should be treated fairly.” Because students feel they are being targeted by the police, not treated fairly, and being racially profiled not all stand for the Pledge of Allegiance . Some students don’t stand to look cool. Some students do not stand because they really don’t feel equal. Dean Wilson stands for the pledge because he served in the U.S Military. He feels students have the right to not stand for the pledge as long as they’re not disrespectful. Mr. Zama stands for the pledge he says it’s out of respect for our country. Brianna Meads, a student at HHS said “ No, I don’t stand for the pledge because we are not treated equally as black people.” Hussein Zirjawi , a junior at HHS feels that some students don’t stand because their friends don’t. Safari Lockhart said “ No I do not stand for the pledge because I don’t believe in it. The stuff they say in the pledge is not true. We are not all equal. “ The American flag symbolizes freedom, justice, and unity. People fought for this country. Even if you don’t believe in the Pledge of Allegiance everyone should have enough respect to stand for the people who died fighting for the country. Just because you stand that doesn’t mean you support it. We should respect everyone feelings whether they stand for the pledge or not. Getting Familiar With The System

Get to know these people : by Shakera Green
Staff at Hampton High School have had different thoughts and routes they wanted to do if they really wanted to work at a High School The first person I interviewed is Coach Blowe. He has been coaching at Hampton High for 22 years. What he enjoy most about coaching is being with the students because he likes to see the progress they make since day 1. Coach Blowe always thought that he want to be a school coach since he was a little boy in High School. After he graduated from High School, he went to college for teaching called Christopher NewPort University. On his spare time from coaching, he loves to play golf with a couple of his friends. But , he does watches little clips on things to help him out with coaching. Next, was Jones. Jones is a security guard. Mr. Jones has been a security guard at Hampton High School for 3 years. He said he love his job as a security guard. He like interacting with the kids. There are usually a lot of fights that break out in High Schools but, Mr. Jones does not think the fights are usually bad at Hampton High. Unfortunately, Mr. Jones did not go to school to be a security guard. But he said it was difficult applying and trying to get the job. Jones said, “ In his future he does not plan on still being a security guard. He`s un decided what he wants to do. Lastly, the best for last is my favorite teacher Mrs. Small. Mrs. Small enjoys having fun with her students and likes learning from her kids. She says sometimes its hard to teach students because their attitudes, or sometimes it`s just not their day. Mrs. Small teaches Animation in High School. But that`s not intentionally what she wanted to go for. After High School, she went to college for Graphic Design at ODU for 8 years. Her major was Commercial Arts and Fine Arts. Mrs. Small is a very nice teacher. She says her teaching style is mutual. If you respect her, she will respect you back. In conclusion, Even though all 3 staff members had different plans for their future, they had to make some sacrifices because everything doesn`t always go as you expect.

Crabber Super Security
By: Revina platt
By: Revina platt
At Hampton high school during 2016-17 school year, we have five security officers, their names are; Chuck, Bruce, Brown, Mcgill, and Jones. They all are great at what they do. School security officers have to promote and maintain safety by supporting the efforts of the campus and the police department , and that's what they do.Many of them have had other security jobs before they came to Hampton High. As a security guard they have to maintain a safe learning environment at all times. They do those things because they really enjoy their jobs.
They help prevent and manage school violence, reduce safety risk and liabilities, and also help improve school relations. Our school security are very nice and it's like they befriend us. As many know you won't gain respect from students if they don't trust you. Everyone loves our security, they are the best and they are great people to talk to. They all have your best interest at hand. School security officers should use every opportunity to teach students about personal safety, tolerance, and personal excellence.
They say the easiest way to do those things is to make sure every conversation is full of positive words and encouragement, the best role model is also the best teacher such as the security we have at Hampton High. I interviewed Chuck as he stated that “ I love my job and i have a good staff working with me, a nice camaraderie, and it's a nice place to work.” I also interviewed Mcgill, I asked him how did he like working at Hampton High and he stated that “ I like Hampton High real good and he likes to be around older kids”. Everyone should have security like the crabber security, they will truly make sure everything is secure and safe!
Precious pink pressure?

Symptoms for Hepatitis A include jaundice, fever, fatigue, loss of appetite and nausea. According to Virginia health department on Tuesday, August 23 2016: 17 people were confirmed to be infected and by September 14 the number of infected in VA rose to 96 cases. What’s the cause of this?
According to The Food Poison Journal “...Traceback evidence indicate frozen strawberries imported from Egypt are the likely source of this outbreak.” Then to add to the fright, the infected we’re interviewed and they all seemed to have consumed smoothies containing strawberries from Tropical Smoothie (a popular smoothie branch).
I took the time out of a school day to walk around and ask people their feelings and thoughts about the incident. Mrs.West stated “Even though I knew about what was going on at tropical smoothie with their strawberries I still ate from there cause I got my HEP shot, I’m good.” She seemed to be a comical character. She said she believes that tropical smoothie should not sue because they were not tricked or forced into buying the strawberries.
One other person I interviewed had a different reaction to the questions asked. Amani Franklin claims she had “no clue of the happenings” and that if she did, she wouldn’t have consumed any of their products containing strawberries. Fortunately Ms.Franklin did not get infecting from consumption. She says that Tropical smoothie should sue because the company that sold them the strawberries should have been doing tests on their products before “putting up a price tag on contaminated goods”.
How do you feel? Something you once loved and cherished could possibly make you sick to your tummy.
